In a partnered study with The University of Melbourne and the building 567 Collins St, it was found that the implementation of parcel lockers created a 66% increase in efficiency for couriers, reducing their dwell time and in turn lowering the CO2 that was previously needlessly emitted.
Findings of the study
The study researched the process of deliveries both before and after parcel lockers and found that loading bay turnover was increased from 5x per hour to 20x per hour, illustrating the monumental gains in operational efficiency. Further, the results from the study suggest that due to the improved efficiency, courier companies can deploy less vehicles, saving yet more CO2 and making a “ very compelling case for the integration of parcel lockers” (Song. Y & Chenguang. L , 2023)
